According to tradition, Goddess Sati's eyeball (Nayan Tara) fell here. Tarapith is world-renowned as a premier center of Tantric Sadhana, spiritualized by the legendary saint Bamakhepa (the Mad Saint). Situated right beside the cremation ground (Mahashamshan) along the Dwarka river, it represents the fierce yet deeply compassionate motherly form of Maa Tara.
