The Churning of the Ocean (Samudra Manthan)

Characters: Devas, Asuras, Lord Vishnu (Kurma), Lord Shiva

A time came when both the celestial devas and the powerful asuras wanted to attain eternal bliss and hidden treasures from the cosmic ocean, but neither side could achieve it alone. Under the guidance of Lord Vishnu, they realized they had to do the unthinkable: work together as partners! They wrapped the giant serpent Vasuki around Mount Mandara as a churning rod, with gods pulling one end and rivals pulling the other, while Vishnu took the form of a giant tortoise (Kurma) underneath to support the heavy mountain on his back. During the fierce churning, toxic obstacles and trials emerged first before any treasures appeared, testing their patience to the limit. By staying united and enduring the hardship together, they eventually extracted incredible gifts of wisdom and harmony.
