Guru Dronacharya set up a wooden bird on a distant tree branch to test the archery focus of his young royal students. One by one, he called princes forward, asking them what they saw before taking aim. The first prince said, 'I see the green tree, the brown branches, the blue sky, and the wooden bird.' Dronacharya shook his head: 'Put down your bow; you are distracted.' He asked another, who replied, 'I see my cousins, the teacher, and the bird.' Again, Dronacharya turned them away. Finally, young Arjuna stepped up to the line with his bow drawn tight. Dronacharya asked, 'What do you see, Arjuna?' Arjuna replied with absolute calm: 'I see only the eye of the bird, nothing else.' Eager and undistracted, he released his arrow, hitting the exact target. Absolute focus on the goal had won the day.
