01
Theological significance
According to ancient Shakta traditions, Goddess Sati's anklets (Silambu) fell on the island of Nainativu in the Palk Strait. Worshipped here as Nagapooshani Amman (the Goddess adorned with serpents), legend holds that Lord Indra and the Serpent King Mucalinda prayed here to gain liberation from curses and spiritual illumination.
