01
Theological significance
To absolve the sin of Brahma-hatya (killing Ravana, a Brahmin king), Lord Rama decided to worship Shiva here. When Hanuman was delayed bringing a Lingam from Kailash, Goddess Sita crafted a sand Lingam (Ramalingam). Lord Rama consecrated it, creating a supreme bridge of unity between Shaivism and Vaishnavism.
The sanctum
Famed for having the longest sculpted outer pillar corridors in the world (over 1,200 meters). The inner sanctum enshrines the sacred sand Ramalingam alongside the Vishwalingam brought by Hanuman.
A pilgrimage is fulfilled not only by reaching the shrine, but by arriving inwardly— with gratitude, patience, and a quiet mind.
