Introduction
02
The 7 Primary Chakras
Each energy center corresponds to a physical plexus, an element, a seed sound vibration (Bija Mantra), and specific psychological functions.
Chakra 1
मूलाधार Muladhara (Root)
Survival, stability, grounding, and physical existence. Home of latent Kundalini.
Chakra 2
स्वाधिष्ठान Svadhisthana (Sacral)
Emotion, creativity, fluid adaptation, and primal desire.
Chakra 3
मणिपूर Manipura (Solar Plexus)
Personal power, digestion, metabolism, willpower, and transformation.
Chakra 4
अनाहत Anahata (Heart)
Unconditional love, compassion, devotion, and emotional balance.
Chakra 5
विशुद्धि Vishuddha (Throat)
Truth, communication, self-expression, and refined listening.
Chakra 6
आज्ञा Ajna (Third Eye)
Intuition, spiritual insight, wisdom, and transcendence of duality.
Chakra 7
सहस्रार Sahasrara (Crown)
State of cosmic oneness, non-dual realization, and liberation (Moksha).
03
Anatomy of the Nadis (Energy Channels)
To understand how Kundalini moves, one must understand the three primary channels running along the spinal axis.
इड़ा नाड़ी
Left of the spine
Associated with lunar energy, coolness, intuition, and the right hemisphere of the brain.
पिंगला नाड़ी
Right of the spine
Associated with solar energy, heat, action, logic, and the left hemisphere of the brain.
सुषुम्ना नाड़ी
Central spinal pathway
The central pathway running directly through the spinal column. It is normally dormant or obstructed; Kundalini can only ascend when Sushumna is cleared and activated.

How Kundalini Meditation Works in Tantric Traditions
Kundalini meditation in classical Tantra is an intentional, systematic process requiring preparation, breathwork, and mental focus.
Clearing the Obstacles (Granthis & Blockages)
Before energy can rise safely, practitioners clear the channels using Pranayama (breath control) and Asanas (body postures). Along the central channel are three major energy knots (Granthis) that must be pierced:
The Process of Awakening & Ascension
Through techniques combining Mula Bandha (root lock), Pranayama (like Kumbhaka or breath retention), and concentration on Muladhara, intense subtle heat (Tapas) is generated at the base of the spine.
The sleeping serpent awakens and enters the central channel (Sushumna Nadi).
As Kundalini ascends, she pierces each of the lower six chakras one by one. As each chakra is pierced, its associated elemental attributes and worldly attachments dissolve into higher forms of awareness.
When Kundalini reaches Sahasrara at the crown, individual energy (Shakti) merges with transcendent universal consciousness (Shiva). The practitioner enters Nirvikalpa Samadhi—a state of non-dual bliss, complete illumination, and liberation from time and space.

Tantric Philosophy Note
Unlike dualistic traditions that reject the physical body, Tantric Hinduism views the body as a temple and a micro-cosmos. The physical and energetic structures are not obstacles to be discarded, but vehicles through which the divine experiences itself.
