8.82.1

आ प्र द्र॑व परा॒वतो॑ऽर्वा॒वत॑श्च वृत्रहन् | मध्व॒: प्रति॒ प्रभ॑र्मणि ||

SURYA, thou mountest up to meet the Hero famous for his wealth, Who hurls the bolt and works for man

8.82.2

ती॒व्राः सोमा॑स॒ आ ग॑हि सु॒तासो॑ मादयि॒ष्णव॑: | पिबा॑ द॒धृग्यथो॑चि॒षे ||

Him who with might of both his arms brake nine-and-ninety castles down, Slew Vṛtra and smote Ahi dead.

8.82.3

इ॒षा म॑न्द॒स्वादु॒ तेऽरं॒ वरा॑य म॒न्यवे॑ | भुव॑त्त इन्द्र॒ शं हृ॒दे ||

This Indra is our gracious Friend. He sends us in a full broad stream Riches in horses, kine, and corn.

8.82.4

आ त्व॑शत्र॒वा ग॑हि॒ न्यु१क्थानि॑ च हूयसे | उ॒प॒मे रो॑च॒ने दि॒वः ||

Whatever, Vṛtra-slayer! thou, Sūrya, hast risen upon to-day, Tbat, Indra, all is in thy power.

8.82.5

तुभ्या॒यमद्रि॑भिः सु॒तो गोभि॑: श्री॒तो मदा॑य॒ कम् | प्र सोम॑ इन्द्र हूयते ||

When, Mighty One, Lord of the brave, thou thinkest thus, I shall not die, That thought of thine is true indeed.

8.82.6

इन्द्र॑ श्रु॒धि सु मे॒ हव॑म॒स्मे सु॒तस्य॒ गोम॑तः | वि पी॒तिं तृ॒प्तिम॑श्नुहि ||

Thou, Indra, goest unto all Soma libations shed for thee, Both far away and near at hand.

8.82.7

य इ॑न्द्र चम॒सेष्वा सोम॑श्च॒मूषु॑ ते सु॒तः | पिबेद॑स्य॒ त्वमी॑शिषे ||

We make this Indra very strong to strike the mighty Vṛtra dead: A vigorous Hero shall he be.

8.82.8

यो अ॒प्सु च॒न्द्रमा॑ इव॒ सोम॑श्च॒मूषु॒ ददृ॑शे | पिबेद॑स्य॒ त्वमी॑शिषे ||

Indra was made for giving, set, most mighty, o’er the joyous draught. Bright, meet for Soma, famed in song.

8.82.9

यं ते॑ श्ये॒नः प॒दाभ॑रत्ति॒रो रजां॒स्यस्पृ॑तम् | पिबेद॑स्य॒ त्वमी॑शिषे ||

By song as ’twere, the powerful bolt which none may parry was prepared Lofty, invincible he grew.
