Rigveda 1.103

1.103.1

तत् त॑ इन्द्रि॒यं प॑र॒मं प॑रा॒चैरधा॑रयन्त क॒वय॑: पु॒रेदम् | क्ष॒मेदम॒न्यद् दि॒व्य १ न्यद॑स्य॒ समी॑ पृच्यते सम॒नेव॑ के॒तुः ||

THAT highest Indra-power of thine is distant: that which is here sages possessed aforetime. This one is on the earth, in heaven the other, and both unite as flag with flag in battle.

1.103.2

स धा॑रयत् पृथि॒वीं प॒प्रथ॑च्च॒ वज्रे॑ण ह॒त्वा निर॒पः स॑सर्ज | अह॒न्नहि॒मभि॑नद्रौहि॒णं व्यह॒न् व्यं॑सं म॒घवा॒ शची॑भिः ||

He spread the wide earth out and firmly fixed it, smote with his thunderbolt and loosed the waters. Maghavan with his puissance struck down Ahi, rent Rauhiṇa to death and slaughtered Vyaṁsa.

1.103.3

स जा॒तूभ॑र्मा श्र॒द्दधा॑न॒ ओज॒: पुरो॑ विभि॒न्दन्न॑चर॒द् वि दासी॑: | वि॒द्वान् वज्रि॒न् दस्य॑वे हे॒तिम॒स्याऽऽर्यं॒ सहो॑ वर्धया द्यु॒म्नमि॑न्द्र ||

Armed with his bolt and trusting in his prowess he wandered shattering the forts of Dāsas. Cast thy dart, knowing, Thunderer, at the Dasyu; increase the Ārya's might and glory, Indra.

1.103.4

तदू॒चुषे॒ मानु॑षे॒मा यु॒गानि॑ की॒र्तेन्यं॑ म॒घवा॒ नाम॒ बिभ्र॑त् | उ॒प॒प्र॒यन् द॑स्यु॒हत्या॑य व॒ज्री यद्ध॑ सू॒नुः श्रव॑से॒ नाम॑ द॒धे ||

For him who thus hath taught these human races, Maghavan, bearing a fame-worthy title, Thunderer, drawing nigh to slay the Dasyus, hath given himself the name of Son for glory.

1.103.5

तद॑स्ये॒दं प॑श्यता॒ भूरि॑ पु॒ष्टं श्रदिन्द्र॑स्य धत्तन वी॒र्या॑य | स गा अ॑विन्द॒त् सो अ॑विन्द॒दश्वा॒न् त्स ओष॑धी॒: सो अ॒पः स वना॑नि ||

See this abundant wealth that he possesses, and put your trust in Indra's hero vigour. He found the cattle, and he found the horses, he found the plants, the forests and the waters.

1.103.6

भूरि॑कर्मणे वृष॒भाय॒ वृष्णे॑ स॒त्यशु॑ष्माय सुनवाम॒ सोम॑म् | य आ॒दृत्या॑ परिप॒न्थीव॒ शूरो ऽय॑ज्वनो वि॒भज॒न्नेति॒ वेद॑: ||

To him the truly strong, whose deeds are many, to him the strong Bull let us pour the Soma. The Hero, watching like a thief in ambush, goes parting the possessions of the godless.

1.103.7

तदि॑न्द्र॒ प्रेव॑ वी॒र्यं॑ चकर्थ॒ यत् स॒सन्तं॒ वज्रे॒णाबो॑ध॒योऽहि॑म् | अनु॑ त्वा॒ पत्नी॑र्हृषि॒तं वय॑श्च॒ विश्वे॑ दे॒वासो॑ अमद॒न्ननु॑ त्वा ||

Well didst thou do that hero deed, O Indra, in waking with thy bolt the slumbering Ahi. in thee, delighted, Dames divine rejoiced them, the flying Maruts and all Gods were joyful.

1.103.8

शुष्णं॒ पिप्रुं॒ कुय॑वं वृ॒त्रमि॑न्द्र य॒दाव॑धी॒र्वि पुर॒: शम्ब॑रस्य | तन्नो॑ मि॒त्रो वरु॑णो मामहन्ता॒मदि॑ति॒: सिन्धु॑: पृथि॒वी उ॒त द्यौः ||

As thou hast smitten Śuṣṇa, Pipru, Vṛtra and Kuyava, and Śambara's forts , O Indra. This prayer of ours may Varuṇa grant, and Mitra, and Aditi and Sindhu, Earth and Heaven.
