01
Theological significance
When Lord Kartikeya left Mount Kailash in anger, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati visited him here in the Nallamala hills. Shiva manifested as Mallikarjuna ('Mallika' meaning Jasmine/Parvati and 'Arjuna' meaning Shiva). It is a rare holy sanctuary where both a Jyotirlinga and a Maha Shaktipeeth exist inside the exact same temple compound.
The sanctum
Enclosed within towering stone walls featuring Vijayanagara sculpture. The garbha griha enshrines a compact, natural Swayambhu Shiva Lingam over which devotees are uniquely permitted to perform direct Sparsha Darshan (touching the Lingam).
A pilgrimage is fulfilled not only by reaching the shrine, but by arriving inwardly— with gratitude, patience, and a quiet mind.
