Significance
Navratri represents the cosmic victory of the Divine Feminine (Shakti) over demoniac forces. Over 9 nights, the nine forms of Goddess Durga (Navadurga) are worshipped to purify consciousness, build strength, remove negativity, and achieve spiritual and material mastery.
Step-by-Step Ghatasthapana (Day 1 Kalash & Khetri Sthapana)
Step 1
Khetri (Barley) Bed Preparation
Take a broad clay pot, fill it with clean soil, and sow soaked Jau (Barley) seeds evenly across three layers. This signifies cosmic creation and growth.
Step 2
Kalash Preparation & Swastika
Take a brass or copper pot, fill it with clean water, a coin, betel nut (Supari), and a pinch of Akshat. Draw a Swastika with Kumkum on the neck of the pot.
Step 3
Coconut & Mango Leaves Assembly
Place 5 mango leaves around the rim of the Kalash. Wrap a raw coconut (with husk) in a red Chunri or red cloth with golden thread (Moli) and place it securely on top of the pot.
Step 4
Installing in Khetri Center
Place the prepared Kalash right in the center of the barley soil pot. Light an Akhand Jyoti (continuous lamp) or a daily morning/evening Ghee lamp facing Goddess Durga.
