उ॒प॒प्र॒यन्तो॑ अध्व॒रं मन्त्रं॑ वोचेमा॒ग्नये॑ |
आ॒रे अ॒स्मे च॑ शृण्व॒ते ||
As forth to sacrifice we go, a hymn to a hymn let us say, Who hears us even when afar;
As we go forth to the harmless sacrifice, let us speak a mantra to Agni, who hears us even from afar.
Gotama's cycle opens with adhvara (non-harming rite) and mantra for Agni are asme ca shrnvate—the far-hearing antaryamin. Approach begins in speech aligned with peaceful yajna.
Start projects with clear, ethical intention spoken aloud—even when the 'listener' feels far.
1.74.2
यः स्नीहि॑तीषु पू॒र्व्यः सं॑जग्मा॒नासु॑ कृ॒ष्टिषु॑ |
अर॑क्षद् दा॒शुषे॒ गय॑म् ||
Who, from of old, in carnage, when the people gathered, hath preserved His household for the worshipper.
Who from of old, amid the clash when peoples gathered, has guarded the household for the worshipper.
In snihitishu…krishtishu Agni arakshad gayam for the dashushe—household protection through social storm. Griha-agni as continuity of dharma when clans collide.
Protect home base and dependents when public conflict rises—stability is sacred infrastructure.
1.74.3
उ॒त ब्रु॑वन्तु ज॒न्तव॒ उद॒ग्निर्वृ॑त्र॒हाज॑नि |
ध॒नं॒ज॒यो रणे॑रणे ||
And let men say, Agni is born, e’en he who slayeth Vṛtra, he Who winneth wealth in every fight.
And let people say: Agni is born—the Vrtra-slayer who wins wealth in every fight.
Ud agnir vrtraha ajani: each kindling reenacts Indra-like victory over blockage. Dhanamjaya ranerane—the flame as conqueror of inertia in every contest of life and rite.
Announce renewals: each true start can break a blockage and reclaim stalled value.
1.74.4
यस्य॑ दू॒तो असि॒ क्षये॒ वेषि॑ ह॒व्यानि॑ वी॒तये॑ |
द॒स्मत् कृ॒णोष्य॑ध्व॒रम् ||
Him in whose house an envoy thou lovest to taste his offered gifts, And strengthenest his sacrifice,
Him in whose house thou, as envoy, lovest to taste the offerings, and thou makest his sacrifice excellent.
Dutah in kshaya tasting havyani: Agni's embassy sanctifies the home that hosts him. Dasmat krnoshi adhvaram—he makes the rite wondrously effective.
Host quality where commitment is real; systems become excellent when the core process 'loves' to engage there.
1.74.5
तमित् सु॑ह॒व्यम॑ङ्गिरः सुदे॒वं स॑हसो यहो |
जना॑ आहुः सुब॒र्हिष॑म् ||
Him, Aṅgiras, thou Son of Strength, all men call happy in his God, His offerings, and his sacred grass.
Him, O Angiras, Son of Strength, people call happy in his God, his offerings, and his sacred grass.
Subarhisham…sudevam: the blessed sacrificer is known by alignment of deity, havya, and barhis—complete yajna apparatus. Angiras and sahaso yahu name Agni's fiery lineage and power-birth.
Well-being shows as coherence: values, contributions, and prepared ground all matching.
1.74.6
आ च॒ वहा॑सि॒ ताँ इ॒ह दे॒वाँ उप॒ प्रश॑स्तये |
ह॒व्या सु॑श्चन्द्र वी॒तये॑ ||
Hitherward shalt thou bring these Gods to our laudation and to taste. These offered gifts, fair-shining One.
Thou shalt bring those Gods here for our praise and to taste these offerings, O fair-shining one.
A vaha devan: classic Hotar function—conveying Devas to stotra and havya. Suchandra Agni makes divine presence local to the Gotama rite.
Be the convener who brings the right stakeholders into real engagement with the work.
1.74.7
न योरु॑प॒ब्दिरश्व्य॑: शृ॒ण्वे रथ॑स्य॒ कच्च॒न |
यद॑ग्ने॒ यासि॑ दू॒त्य॑म् ||
When, Agni, on thine embassage thou goest not a sound is heard of steed or straining of thy car.
When thou goest on thine embassy, O Agni, no sound of steed or chariot-strain is heard.
Silent dutyam: Agni's motion between worlds without ashvya upabdi—mystic stealth of the inner messenger. Grace travels quieter than spectacle.
Influence often moves without fanfare; effective mediation can be quiet, fast, and trackless.
1.74.8
त्वोतो॑ वा॒ज्यह्र॑यो॒ ऽभि पूर्व॑स्मा॒दप॑रः |
प्र दा॒श्वाँ अ॑ग्ने अस्थात् ||
Aided by thee uninjured, strong, one after other, goes he forth: Agni, the offerer forward steps.
Aided by thee, uninjured and strong, one after another he advances; the offering man steps forward, O Agni.
Tvoto…ahriyah: successive progress of the dashvan under Agni's help—parampara of fearless offering. Each generation or each act steps pra-asthāt in protection.
Sequential courage: with solid support, keep advancing step by step without self-sabotage.
1.74.9
उ॒त द्यु॒मत् सु॒वीर्यं॑ बृ॒हद॑ग्ने विवाससि |
दे॒वेभ्यो॑ देव दा॒शुषे॑ ||
And splendid strength, heroic, high, Agni, thou grantest from the Gods, Thou God, to him who offers gifts.
And thou, O God Agni, shinest forth for the giver from the Gods great heroic strength.
Dyumat suviryam brihat from devebhyah to dashushe: Agni mediates tejas of the Devas into human virya. The gift-cycle returns as luminous capability.
Generosity attracts empowering resources—strength that feels 'from above' yet works through your craft.
